Ayurveda View

Ayurveda regards allergy as a disorder caused by impaired digestion, which is why preliminary symptoms may include indigestion, constipation or diarrhea. This dysfunction in the digestive process is the cause of the hypersensitivity to certain substances, such as dust and pollen that triggers the allergic attacks. Deposits of ama (toxins in the form of mucus) in the lungs and respiratory tract create obstruction in breathing and cause wheezing, coughing or sneezing.

Ayurveda believes in balancing the three doshas present in the human body, thus treating the disease on the whole. Treatment involves clearing the sinuses and expelling phlegm, alleviating the relevant dosha and detoxification. To permanently resolve this disorder, dietary and lifestyle adjustments may be necessary in addition to the strengthening of the immune system. Panchakarma is an effective means of treating Allergic Rhinitis.

In this process, whatever we give to the patients in the large doses, is being given in smaller doses. The same medicaments are given to the patients when they are hungry. The whole crux is to pacify the doshas instead of expelling them.

In this process, Sneha (Medicated Ghee or Oil) is being used in higher dose. This is done in order to saturate Sneha in the body. Here, everyday, the dosage is increased until all the parts and cells of the body get saturated. This procedure is being done in the early morning on an empty stomach. When the whole body gets saturated with Sneha then Swedana is being performed in which whole body steaming is being done.
