According to ayurveda, fibroid is growth in mamsa dhatu of uterus. According to ancient texts, mamsarbuda means growth in muscles and connective tissue. Fibroid often manifests itself as excessive bleeding and hence this should be treated as 'Yonivyapad' (group of disorders related to female reproductive system).

Uterine fibroids are considered mostly a kapha-accumulation disorder, but often involve pitta and vata displacements also, in which case the patient may be considered as pre-cancerous. Therefore, treatment must be deep-acting to balance the tri-dosha and must be sufficiently sustained over time to eradicate slow-moving kapha. The fibroids can be dissolved by diet, lifestyle changes and Yoga .

In this process, whatever we give to the patients in the large doses, is being given in smaller doses. The same medicaments are given to the patients when they are hungry. The whole crux is to pacify the doshas instead of expelling them.

The Pranayama helps Breathing exercises, or pranayamas, are a good way to relieve stress naturally. Dr.Sejal Shah says that for fibroids disorders in women, it is a good idea to do a few minutes of Nadi Shodhan (alternate nostril breathing) and Bhramri (bee pranayama) daily for a few minutes. Through the medium of breath, these pranayamas help release stress in the mind.

  • Cruciferous vegetables help the liver detox. Broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, kale, turnips, watercress, radish and arugula are all great choices. Avoid overcooking these vegetables so that they retain most of their nutrients.
  • Foods to help detoxify your body are also recommended. Garlic, carrots, beets and drinking plenty of water will help with detoxification.
  • Foods that contain carotenoids should be added to your diet for fibroids. Apricots, sweet potato, cantaloupe, carrots, pumpkin and spinach are all sufficient sources.
  • Eat foods containing vitamin E, like almonds, wheat germ, hazelnuts and cod liver oil.
  • Natural anti-inflammatory foods can help as well. Pineapple and fresh rosemary have been shown to help decrease inflammation.
  • An antioxidant called polyphenol, which is found in green tea, can help to counteract the effects of estrogen.
  • Consider taking a multivitamin every day. Look for one that has 100% daily value for vitamins: B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B12 and B6. Vitamins C, D, E and folic acid should also be included, as well as a max of 15,000 IUs of beta-carotene (vitamin A).
