Vitiligo is also called Shwetakushta or Shwitra or Kilasa and classified into Kushta rogas (skin diseases). It is caused by the imbalance of all the three doshas (Vata, Pitta & Kapha) vitiating Rakta, Mamsa and Medas Dhatus. The main dosha is the Pitta Dosha which gets imbalanced majorly.

First is Shodhan (detoxification) and and second is Shaman (treatment with medicines). Shodhan aims at detoxifying the body or eliminating toxins from the body-fluids. It is achieved by the "Panchakarma" treatments.
The two types of drugs are mainly used:
Photosensitizing Drugs- These drugs include Psoralea corylifolia (Bakuchi), Semecarpus anacardium (Marking nut) and Ficus hispida (Kakodumbar). These drugs are used with the exposure to the Sun. The exposure of the Sun is advised after three hours of drug administration.
Blood Purifiers- The drugs are Haridra (Curcuma longa), Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Sariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Khadir (Acacia catechu), Apamarga (Achyranthes aspera) are used to purify the blood.
Ras Aushadhi- It includes Ras Manikya, Taal Sindur, Sameer Pannag Ras and Talkeshwar Ras. These drugs act like immuno suppressant and usually used in those patients who are suffering from the contagious diseases. Three types of bhasma are there viz Tamra bhasma, Kasis bhasma and Shubhra bhasma that are used to initiate the pigmentation.
Shodhan therapy called Virechan is advisable. Repeated sessions of Virechan are advisable after a gap of 6 months.
