Virechana is an Ayurvedic detox therapy used for the purification of the body and mind, and is one among the five detoxification therapies Panchakarma. The very word Virechana in sanskrit means 'purging' or laxative. Virechana is is very effective in getting rid of all toxins (ama) from the body and pacifying Pitta dosha aggravation within the body. It is specifically effective in cleansing the small intestine.
Pitta dosha controls metabolism, digestion and the body's energy. Virechana purges the toxic and disease-causing Pitta dosha from the body while prompting the formation of “new” Pitta, leading to all the benefits of a balanced, healthy Pitta including promotion of digestion and metabolism.
Herbs used for Virechana aim at cleansing the sweat glands, small intestine, colon, stomach, liver, and spleen. A number of herbs are used for the therapy, which serve as decongestants, laxatives, and purgatives. Just like other Ayurvedic treatments and therapies, Virechana is only carried out after correct diagnosis of the root of disease. Purgation is performed under the supervision of our experienced ayurvedic doctors with care in specific amounts according to aggravated doshas. Virechana therapy is good for all types of Pitta related disorders such as hyper-acidity, colitis, acid peptic disease, gynaecological ailments, haemorrhoids, chronic headaches, migraine, malabsorption, some types of diabetes, allergies and skin diseases (acne, dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, leprosy, and leucoderma).
